Tread Plate is industrial checker plate — the raised diamond grip you have walked on in every stairwell, loading bay, truck bed and machine room. Short dashes are laid in a staggered checker, and alternating dashes tilt the opposite way, so the field reads as interlocking diamonds rather than rows of dashes. That alternation is the whole point: it grips in every direction instead of only across the ribs. Every dash is real geometry generated from the face's own bounding box at regeneration time, so the tread re-lays itself whenever the part changes size. Five numbers give you the whole family of plate styles. Pitch is the dash spacing, with rows offset by half a pitch to build the checker. Dash length and Dash width set the size of a single tread — long and narrow for the classic five-bar look, short and fat for the chunkier plate used on vehicle steps. Dash tilt is the angle, and because its sign alternates cell to cell, raising it turns a herringbone into an aggressive interlocking diamond while dropping it toward zero flattens the field into simple staggered bars. Rotation aligns the grip direction with how the part is actually walked on or held. Use emboss for anything functional — a raised tread is what actually grips a boot sole or a wet hand — and 0.8 to 1.5 mm of Depth is plenty; taller does not grip better, it just prints longer and chips more easily. Keep Dash width at roughly twice your nozzle width, around 0.8 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle. Printed flat against the plate it needs no supports. Good for step and stair treads, ramps, tool and machine bases, vehicle and RC model floors, pedals and footplates, workshop trays and robot chassis decks.
