Basket Weave
Basket Weave is the texture you reach for when a flat face looks unfinished but a plain grid looks cheap. It tiles a checkerboard across the face you pick; every cell holds a bundle of parallel bars, and the bundles alternate between horizontal and vertical from one cell to the next, so your eye reads the over-under rhythm of a woven basket. It is real geometry, not a decal — generated at regeneration time from the face's own bounding box, so it re-tiles itself whenever the part changes. Cell sets the pitch of one woven square: 6 to 10 mm feels fine and fabric-like, 15 to 25 mm reads as real wicker. Bars per cell decides how many strips are packed into that pitch, Gap opens the spacing between them, Rotation spins the weave for a diagonal basket, and Depth sets the relief. Engrave sinks the bars into the host — safest for a decorative panel, no overhangs. Emboss raises them, which is what you want for grip: the woven surface feels genuinely tactile and hides layer lines on large flat walls. Keep Gap at roughly twice your nozzle width — around 0.8 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle, 1 to 1.5 mm if the channels should stay visibly open. Below about 8 mm of Cell, drop Bars per cell to 2 or 3 so the slicer does not merge them into a flat patch. Good for enclosure lids and panels, planter walls, handle and grip zones, drawer fronts, coasters, lamp shades, and any large flat face that would otherwise show every layer line.
Parameters
This object exposes these parameters. You set them when you place it in the editor.
- CellNumber
Pitch of one woven square. The single biggest lever on how the texture reads — 6–10 mm feels fine and fabric-like, 15–25 mm reads as real wicker.
- Default
- 12 mm
- Range
- 3 – 100 mm
- Bars per cellNumber
Strips packed into each cell. More bars → finer weave, but each bar gets thinner.
- Default
- 3 count
- Range
- 1 – 8 count
- GapNumber
Spacing between bars and around each bundle. Also shortens the bars so bundles don't collide at the cell borders.
- Default
- 1 mm
- Range
- 0.2 – 10 mm
- RotationNumber
Spins the whole pattern about the face anchor. 45° gives a diagonal weave.
- Default
- 0 deg
- Range
- -180 – 180 deg
- DepthNumber
How deep the bars are cut, or how far they stand proud.
- Default
- 1.2 mm
- Range
- 0.1 – 20 mm
- ReliefOption
Engrave cuts the weave into the face; Emboss raises the bars out of it.
- Default
- Engrave
- Values
- Engrave · Emboss
