Perforated Holes
Perforated Holes is the speaker-grille pattern: a field of round holes marching across the face you pick, in a plain orthogonal array or in the tighter staggered packing real perforated sheet uses. It is the one texture here that is more often structural than decorative — vents, grilles, drainage, weight saving — so it was built to behave like an engineering feature rather than a picture of one. The holes are emitted as true analytic circles, not many-sided polygons: one circular seed instanced to every centre, so they extrude as real cylinders. Crisp round walls, no faceting however far you zoom, exact diameters you can quote on a drawing, and a cheap boolean even with hundreds of holes. That matters the moment a hole has to accept a fastener or a light pipe — a 26-sided approximation of a 4 mm hole is not a 4 mm hole. Packing staggered offsets alternate rows by half a pitch and tightens row spacing to the densest hex arrangement; grid is a plain square array, easier to align with edges and mounting holes. Depth decides the rest: short of the wall thickness the holes are blind pockets, past it they are true through-perforations, and emboss inverts the whole field into raised pegs. For a real vent set Depth a little over the host wall thickness — exactly equal is the classic way to leave a paper-thin membrane behind. Keep the land between holes (Pitch minus Diameter) at two perimeters or more, around 1.5 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle, so the sheet keeps its strength. Good for speaker grilles and fan vents, enclosure ventilation, planter and tray drainage, pegboard panels, lightweight plates, filter faces and decorative light screens.
Parameters
This object exposes these parameters. You set them when you place it in the editor.
- DiameterNumber
Hole size. A true circle, so the number is the real bore diameter.
- Default
- 4 mm
- Range
- 0.5 – 100 mm
- PitchNumber
Centre-to-centre spacing. Pitch − Diameter is the land left between holes.
- Default
- 7 mm
- Range
- 1 – 200 mm
- RotationNumber
Spins the whole field about the face anchor.
- Default
- 0 deg
- Range
- -180 – 180 deg
- DepthNumber
How deep the holes go. Set it past the host wall thickness for true through-perforation.
- Default
- 3 mm
- Range
- 0.1 – 20 mm
- PackingOption
staggered offsets alternate rows by half a pitch and tightens row spacing to the densest hex packing; grid is a plain orthogonal array.
- Default
- Staggered
- Values
- Grid · Staggered
- ReliefOption
Engrave cuts holes into the face; Emboss raises pegs out of it.
- Default
- Engrave
- Values
- Engrave · Emboss
