Square Grid
Square Grid is the orthogonal one — a plain checkerboard of square cells, the waffle you find on machined base plates, breadboards, camera cages and the underside of every well-made housing. It has no organic pretensions and no decorative flourish, which is exactly why it sits well on technical parts where a honeycomb or a weave would look like styling. The grid is real geometry generated from the face's own bounding box at regeneration time, so it re-tiles itself whenever the plate changes size. Each cell is emitted as a single frame — an outer square with an inner one cut out — so neighbouring cells share one wall instead of stacking two. No polygon union to compute, no doubled-up line anywhere, and the grooves stay a clean constant width whether you place nine cells or nine hundred. The Style switch then flips what the pattern is: walls keeps the grid lines themselves, Thickness wide, a waffle of ridges or grooves; holes relieves the solid inner square and Thickness becomes the land between cells, giving square pockets or a field of studs that reads as pixel art at small pitch and as a machined lightening pattern at large. Keep Thickness at roughly twice your nozzle width, around 0.8 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle, so the corners where four lines meet do not turn into a blob. Depth of 1 to 2 mm is the useful range — a shallow engraved grid on a large flat top face is one of the cheapest ways to kill the glassy, wavy look of a big solid surface. Good for machined-look base plates and mounting panels, enclosure undersides and lids, grip surfaces, pixel-style fronts, lightening patterns on thick walls, and model flooring.
Parameters
This object exposes these parameters. You set them when you place it in the editor.
- CellNumber
Square pitch — the size of one cell of the grid.
- Default
- 8 mm
- Range
- 1 – 100 mm
- ThicknessNumber
Grid line width in walls style; the land left between cells in holes style.
- Default
- 1.2 mm
- Range
- 0.2 – 20 mm
- RotationNumber
Spins the whole grid about the face anchor. 45° gives a diagonal lattice.
- Default
- 0 deg
- Range
- -180 – 180 deg
- DepthNumber
How deep the relief is cut, or how far it stands proud.
- Default
- 1.5 mm
- Range
- 0.1 – 20 mm
- StyleOption
walls keeps the grid lines (waffle of ridges or grooves); holes relieves the inner square (pockets or studs).

- ReliefOption
Engrave cuts into the face; Emboss raises out of it.
