Hexagonal Mesh

v1.0.0No uses yet

Hexagonal Mesh is the honeycomb — the pattern nature settled on for packing the most area into the least wall, and the one every lightweight panel, speaker grille and drone frame has borrowed since. Hexagons tile across the face you pick with no wasted space between them. It is real geometry generated from the face's own bounding box at regeneration time, so the lattice re-tiles itself whenever the panel changes size. The Style switch changes the character completely. In walls mode — the default — each cell keeps only its frame, an outer hexagon with an inner one cut out, and Wall is the frame thickness: engraved that is a finely machined technical surface, embossed it is a raised honeycomb you can grip. In holes mode the solid hexagon is relieved instead, leaving Wall-wide land between cells — a field of hex pockets, or of hex studs when embossed. Cell is the across-flats size, the way hex stock is always measured, and Orientation flips between flat-top and pointy-top, which also changes how the walls stack on the plate. Keep Wall at roughly twice your nozzle width — around 0.8 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle — so each honeycomb wall is a solid two-perimeter extrusion. Depth of 1 to 2 mm reads well for both grip and decoration; push it past the host wall thickness in holes plus engrave and you get a genuine perforated grille, just check the remaining land still carries the load. Good for vents and speaker covers, lightweight panels and lids, technical-looking enclosure sides, grip zones, drone and RC frame plates, coasters and trivets.

Parameters

This object exposes these parameters. You set them when you place it in the editor.

  • Cell (across flats)Number

Hexagon size, measured across the flats like hex stock. Sets the pitch of the whole lattice.

    Default
    8 mm
    Range
    1 – 100 mm
  • WallNumber

Frame thickness in walls style; the land left between cells in holes style.

    Default
    1.2 mm
    Range
    0.2 – 20 mm
  • RotationNumber

Spins the whole field about the face anchor.

    Default
    0 deg
    Range
    -180 – 180 deg
  • DepthNumber

How deep the relief is cut, or how far it stands proud. Past the host wall thickness in holes/engrave it becomes a true perforation.

    Default
    1.5 mm
    Range
    0.1 – 20 mm
  • OrientationOption

flatTop or pointyTop hexes — changes both the look and how the walls stack on the plate.

    Default
    FlatTop
    Values
    FlatTop · PointyTop
  • StyleOption

walls keeps the hex frame (honeycomb of ridges or grooves); holes relieves the solid hexagon (pockets or studs).

    Default
    Walls
    Values
    Walls · Holes
  • ReliefOption

Engrave cuts into the face; Emboss raises out of it.

    Default
    Engrave
    Values
    Engrave · Emboss
